The legend of Viana do Castelo is about a love between a local boy and a noble girl. Madly in love, the boy became known for asking everyone if they had seen Ana. When he got a glimpse of Ana at her window, he shouted with joy: “I saw Ana of the castle” (“Vi a Ana do Castelo”)! And so the name of our city came about. Filipe A. portrays the tale of Viana: he draws with filigree threads roses climbing up the tower to the window, where Ana, enveloped by their aroma, feels embraced by her beloved.
