Samarkand

Art. 674

This collection came out of the concept of folding and deforming a basic star pattern which in its pure version is mostly found in the buildings from Timurid era in Samarkand, the capital of the Timurid Empire (1370-1507 based in Persia). Here, by creating a rectangular network over the basic pattern, Sheima tried to combine the origami inspired folding structures with one of the most familiar geometric patterns used in Persian architecture during the Islamic period.
