Interview with Liz Huberman

Art. 679

- What path led you to become a contemporary jewellery artist?

My love for jewellery, particularly rings, has always been a part of who I am, though I never considered making them myself. Although my background is in law, my journey into jewellery making has been unexpected.  A stay at Lake Como in 2019 inspired me to delve into the art of jewellery making and shortly after, my family surprised me with a jewellery-making workshop. This experience awakened a new passion. Since then, this path has continue to evolve  and brought me not only joy and fulfilment but also personal and professional growth.

- What materials do you prefer to use in your creations, and why?

I work with precious metals, primarily silver and gold,  along with natural pearls and gems.Their beauty and uniqueness, as well as the nobility of the metal, inspire me to create pieces that will endure and carry on their legacy.

- How Do You Represent Uniqueness in Your Creations?

Each piece I create is entirely handmade, making its uniqueness an inherent part of its character. The handmade texture ensures that no two pieces are ever identical—each has its own personality and individuality.

As the production process unfolds, every piece tells its own story, shaped by its organic form, raw texture, and unique details. I draw inspiration from contrasts: rough textures meet  satin finishes while bold shapes balance fine lines.

- What inspires your collections the most?

I have multiple sources of inspiration, but ultimately, it is the raw material itself that becomes my main source of inspiration as it takes shape. I start with a basic idea and allow the process to unfold naturally. The metal pieces guide the beginning, and they evolve step by step. I adapt and progress as the piece develops, enjoying the freedom of being led by the material.

-How would you define your style in the world of jewellery?

I would define my style as contemporary, organic and distinctive

- What cultural influences have shaped your style?

As an Argentinean living in Europe for over 20 years, my creations reflect a blend of both cultures. The vibrant, bold spirit of Buenos Aires, a cosmopolitan city influenced by various cultures, has shaped the foundation of my work. Over time, my European experience has further nourished my style.

- Is there a message or philosophy you wish to convey through your creations?

I believe in the beauty of individuality, and I value the uniqueness of handmade pieces
