Colormond X Fei Liu Laboratory grown Diamond Collection Launch

Colormond, a new jewellery brand, launched its first fine jewellery collections at Somerset House in London on Tuesday 3rd October. Designed by award-winning, UK-based fine jewellery designer Fei Liu, the pieces have been created with coloured laboratory-grown diamonds in a spectrum of hues.

Colormond was founded by successful entrepreneur and pioneer Stella Liu, with the aim to make diamond fine jewellery “accessible to everyone, not just the privileged few. The collections of laboratory-created coloured diamonds and their creations are a more affordable option to natural mined diamonds for those looking for quality craftmanship alongside beautiful, creative designs.” Also launched that day was Colormond’s new Colour Grading system.

Stella explains,

“As part of our commitment to be fully sustainable by 2030, we are launching the concept of our colour grading system. A first for the industry and available shortly, the system is designed to not only establish an industry-recognised standardisation for laboratory-created diamonds but also, as importantly, help educate and provide the consumer with a credible colour guide”.

The Colormond diamonds offer an attractive spectrum of hues. On hand at the launch was the Gem Academy’s Julia Griffiths, who explained the science behind the colour palette. It was created through customised colour saturation during growth, allowing a range from the intense to the delicate in blues, soft pinks and yellows.

The company explains,

“Thanks to their ease of availability, laboratory-created diamonds open the door to an inspiring collection of creative fancy cuts to amplify the colour and aesthetic of each piece – including princess, cushion, emerald, pear and marquise.” 

Having previously resisted the temptation of working with laboratory-grown diamonds, Fei Liu was introduced to Stella’s impressive new venture and was impressed by her sustainability aims and lifestyle choices. Before finally deciding to travel this route, he canvassed the opinions of a number of his key retail partners – their encouragement was the confirmation that he needed.

As well as a special Christmas collection, which includes a stunning starburst pendant/brooch and opulent drop earrings, Fei has created three lines for Colormond. Criss Cross pieces are set with princess cut pink and white laboratory-grown diamonds in 18ct yellow, white and rose gold; Clarice is an Art Deco style collection featuring emerald cut laboratory-grown diamonds in 18ct white gold and Aurora, inspired by Victorian elegance with water droplet motifs and blossoms and pear-shaped laboratory grown diamonds.
