Deon Smith did not set out to be a jewelry designer. He studied medicine and practiced as a pediatrician. He discovered, quite by chance, that he also enjoyed designing, especially jewelry, and after he retired, he was encouraged to pursue this newfound interest. Over the years, he has felt the need to record his observations, insights, and aspirations. Designing jewelry has become a visual, tangible, and nuanced way for him to do so, providing moments of clarity and meaning in his life.
